Welcome to the Division Three virtual classroom. This website is the main method of communication for students throughout the school year. The website is constantly changing with new content being added on a daily basis. As a parent, I recommend that you visit the site on a regular basis to keep up to date with what’s happening in the class.
A Little Bit About Me
I’ve been teaching in West Vancouver for 7 years, with 4 of those years at Chartwell teaching at the grade 6/7 level. I have a passion for integrating technology in the classroom, and believe it is integral for students to become literate in this area as they progress through the upper intermediate grades.
General Classroom Expectations
All students are encouraged to work to their fullest potential, as they are encouraged to take active responsibility for their learning. It is expected that students complete all homework assignments on time and keep an organized, detailed planner to stay on top of due dates. While the classroom website lists all homework assignments on a daily basis, it is still imperative that students use a secondary method of recording homework for the day.
Late/Unfinished Homework Policy
My policy on late or unfinished homework is pretty simple. If you’re homework is incomplete, you finish it on your own time. This includes before school, recess, lunch, or after school. If a student has an ongoing problem with completing homework, you will be contacted by email.
Technology in Class
Student Devices
As I mentioned earlier, I am a huge proponent of students bringing technology into the classroom. If your son/daughter has access to a device, I encourage you to send them to school with it. Acceptable devices are as follows:
Ipad/Tablet Computer
Laptop (Mac or PC)
Smartphone w/ internet access
Students are expected to use these devices in an appropriate manner. For more information please see the Chartwell Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement.
Twitter
I use Twitter on a regular basis to send links and messages to students quickly. You can view my Twitter feed on the left side of the website and there is no need for students to sign up for an account.
Instagram
This year, I have opened up an instagram account as a method to share photos of our classroom in action. What’s cool about this is that whenever I take a picture, it is instantly shared to our classroom website. As well, students with their own instagram account can follow me and the pictures are automatically sent to their device as well. If you would not like photos of your child shared in this manner, please contact me.
Attendance/Lates
Please ensure that your child arrives on time every day. Not only is it a distraction for the rest of the class, more often than not important information is given out during the morning announcements. Thanks for your cooperation in this area.
I am looking forward on getting to know you and your children throughout the school year. Please feel free to contact me about any questions or concerns you may have. I can be reached via email at [email protected], or feel free to stop by the classroom at any time.
